Editorial standards

The rules we hold ourselves to, written down so you can hold us to them as well.

Every claim is checkable

Version numbers, support windows, prices and limits are taken from the primary source — the vendor’s own documentation, a specification, a datasheet or the output of a command you can run yourself. Where a number depends on your setup, we say so and show the command that produces your number rather than ours.

We publish the limits of what we know

If something could not be confirmed, the article says it could not be confirmed. We would rather leave a gap visible than fill it with a confident guess.

Guides are maintained, not abandoned

Articles here are written to stay useful for years, which only works if they are revisited. Each one carries the date it was last checked. When a fact changes we edit the article and move the date; we do not quietly leave the old wording in place.

Sponsorship never buys a conclusion

Sponsored placements are labelled. They are separate from the editorial sections, they are not linked from editorial articles as if they were our own reporting, and no sponsor sees an editorial piece before it is published.

Corrections

If an article is wrong, tell us and we will fix it and say what changed. Use the contact page or the feedback form.
